The SWBSG, in consultation with the renewables industry and the conservation agencies, has developed a prioritised programme of research.

The overarching purpose of the proposed research programme is to clarify the relationship between wind farms and populations of birds across Scotland.

This will include clarification of the level of any displacement or mortality of birds due to the development of wind farms; and consideration of any cumulative impacts as the number of turbines increases over time as the industry becomes an established part of the Scottish landscape.

The proposed research will also help clarify the effects, potentially both positive and negative, of habitat management within the land holdings owned and managed by wind farm development companies.
